It belongs to the cluster of Korestia villages or ‘brick villages’ of the Regional Unity of Kastoria. They are almost abandoned villages of distinctive architecture, with buildings made of mud, red clay, water and straw. Today most of them are abandoned. Although Gavros is uninhabited, the church of Agios Nikolaos has been preserved. It is a three-aisled basilica, with a carved wooden iconostasis and an impressive fresco of the Three Hierarchs. In the village you will also find the humble chapel of Agios Modestos. A 16th century one-room chapel dedicated to Saint Modesto, patron saint of shepherds and animal husbandry.
