Manavika | Trikala

The “Manavika” (greengrocers’ market) area is a listed neighbourhood in the city’s historical center. It consists of low shops of a traditional character, which, after the vegetable market was moved, has turned into a recreational area with traditional tavernas and other entertainment venues. A vast mural of 150sq.m., travelling visitors and locals back to yester years, decorates the Manavika neighbourhood. It was crafted in 2006 by visiting non-Greek artists in the framework of a European Programme, in cooperation with the municipality of Trikkaioi, for the aesthetic upgrading of the city’s building facades. It depicts in a realistic fashion scenes from a local market with regulars at a taverna, musicians and singers on balconies, housewives in the street market and children playing.
