Archaeological site of Dodona

Ancient Dodoni, in the Mount Tomaros valley, was an important sanctuary in north-west Greece and was famous for its oracle. One of the most impressive public buildings was the large theatre there which was built during Pyrrhus’ reign in the 3rd century BC. The theatre held 18,000 spectators and hosted drama competitions in honour of Zeus. During the Roman era, it was used as an arena for fighting wild animals. The ancient theatre at Dodoni now stages performances of ancient drama during the summer.
