Castle of Parga

The castle of Parga reflect its turbulent history. Even now, visitors can see emblems of “ La Serenissima” Republic of Venice and of Ali Pasha, two-headed eagles and inscriptions at the main fort. Many conquerors passed through the bay of Parga, including Franks, Venetians, French, Russians, English and Turks. When in 1819 the English sold Parga to Ali Pasha, who had waged war for years to win i they left their homes en masse and fled to Corfu, taking with them only a handful of soil from their homeland and the bones of their ancestors.
