Amvrakikos Gulf

The Ambracian Gulf is one of the largest stopovers for migratory birds in Greece. Aside from its migrating visitors, the gulf’s wetlands are home to a number of bird species (herons, egrets, flamingoes, coots, grebes and others) which create an impressive feast of colours on the Ambracian waters. At least 295 species of birds have been recorded, including six endangered ones: the Dalmatian pelican, the great bittern, the greater spotted eagle, the lesser spotted eagle, the ferruginous duck and the pygmy cormorant.
