Monastery of Archangelos Michael | Archangelos

The monument of Archangelos Michael is located in an idyllic plateau on Mt. Paiko, near the village of Archangelos in Aridaia; it was built in 1858 on the ruins of a Byzantine monument that had been erected in the 11th century. The stone church of the monument has murals dating to 1888 which reflect the local folk style and naiveté. Amongst them is a depiction of the local martyrdom of Agia Chryssi of Moglena. The murals were crafted by three brothers from Krousovo. It is a pilgrimage destination and home to a monastic brotherhood.
