Jewish Synagogue of Veria

Jewish Synagogue of Veria

Contrary to the Christian quarters with the church in the middle, the Jewish quarter had its Synagogue on the same row with the houses. The existing synagogue was built over the old one, on the orders of the Sultan in 1850. An important element of the building is its unique architecture and its excellently preserved interior. The space is actually “alive” today, since Jews from all over the world come here to pray and “travel” for a while to the glorious past of the quarter.
