Casa Bianca

Casa Bianca had a special place among the renowned upper-class mansions of the city in the early 20th century that spread from the White Tower to Villa Allatini. It was built in 1912 on the designs of the architect Pierro Arrigoni as residence of Dino Fernandez and his wife Blanche. It is a two-storey building with a semibasement and an attic. Its architecture carries elements of eclecticism, the renaissance and art nouveau, such as the circular openings, the elliptic skylights, the decorative bands and the ironwork. Another special characteristic of the villa is the peculiar construction of the roofs, whose morphology alludes to the traditional architecture of Central Europe. Similar roofs with towers and attics were used by the architects Ziller and Hansen in Athens. At Casa Bianca today housed the Municipal Art Gallery of Thessaloniki.
