Kleisoura

Kleisoura was acentre of Vlach Hellenism, built within the forest of beech and oak trees, at the foothills of Mt Mouriki and at an altitude of 1,172 metres. It experienced economic prosperity and flourished in the 18th and 19th century. It was a centre of Greek letters, with excellent schools that produced some of the country’s important figures. Start at the Folklore Museum, with exhibits that narrate the village’s history. Visit the two old churches of Agios Nikolaos (1839) and Agios Dimitrios (1856), with the important icon of the saint and the Reliquary, the small ecclesiastical museum with valuable relics from the churches and chapels of the village. Martyred Kleisoura experienced its own Holocaust in1944.
