Spileo

The village of Spilaio and the Portitsa gorge usually marks the end of the day excursions from Grevena, and all other excursions of visitors or skiers swarming the prefecture in winter. The word Spilaio or Pylaion, as the village was called in ancient times, does not mean cave (there is no cave in the area) but steep rock, which perfectly reflects the morphology of the village. The inhabitants of Spilaio are mainly stockbreeders, although the small and fertile fields among the rocks produce beans of an exceptional quality.
