Castle of Kalyva

The castle of Kalyva is located near the village of Kalyva which has a view of the straits of Nestos. It is believed that it was built by Philip II. Its strategic position allowed control of the passes from Thrace to Macedonia. Although only ruins remain today, the view from its walls towards the plain of Xanthi and the mountains of Rodopi is impressive. Access to the castle is through paths that cross beautiful forests, offering an opportunity for hiking in nature.
