Zachariadis Cave | Pyli

At a distance of one kilometer from the village of Pyli, in a wooded area on the west bank of the small Prespa river and on a hill northeast of the stream of Sotiros, is the “Cave of Zachariadis”, the hideout of the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Greece Nikos Zachariadis. The Cave was the site of the meetings and councils of the leadership of the guerrilla leadership of the Democratic Army of Greece during the civil war. The landscaped path with terraces and small steps will lead you to the well-hidden cave, which is open to visitors. The same area was also the location of the guerrilla headquarters and other auxiliary facilities.
