Monastery of Agioi Anargyroi | Melissotopos

An important religious site of pilgrimage lies 2 km from the village of Melissotopos and 24km from Kastoria. This is the male Monastery of Agioi Anargyroi, built on the site of an earlier monastery dating to the era of Emperor Alexios I Komnenos (1080 AD). It is in fact one of the largest and oldest monasteries in Kastoria. During the Macedonian Struggle, the Monastery provided refuge to many Macedonian fighters. In the centre of its forecourt is the katholikon church, which was built in 1857. You will be impressed by the wood-carved icon screen with its 18th-century icons and the cellar with the old, large barrels. The monastery celebrates its feast days on 1 July and 1 November and is open to visitors.
