Mount Vitsi

At the borders of the Regional Units of Kastoria and Florina is Mt Vitsi, with a height of 2,128 m. It is covered in dense beech and oak forests while on its slopes you will find traditional villages and abandoned settlements. Some of the fiercest battles in the Greek Civil War took place at Vitsi in August 1949. The Civil War Monument was erected in memory of the thousands of Greeks who were killed during it but also to teach future generations the values of unity and brotherhood among Greeks everywhere.
