Cistern of the Holy Apostles | Gaios

It is the most impressive cistern of Paxos. It was constructed by the English, when the island was under the English authority and was completed in 1846. Along with the other cisterns on the island, it was part of the hydraulic system for rainwater harvesting in order to cover the needs for potable water. The elegant central staircase on the south side really stands out. The Cistern of Gaios has been designated as a historical monument by the Greek Ministry of Culture.
