Gates of Hades

The impressive “Gates of Hades” are found in the Trikastro area. A narrow, steep gorge carries the Aherontas river between vertical cliffs. Here starts the passage down the mythical river, by canoe or kayak, for quite some kilometres in the midst of a wild landscape. According to ancient mythology, the Aherontas’ current was followed by Hermes, the “ferryman of souls”, transporting the souls of the dead to Hades.
