Koronia lake

Koronia lake

Once upon a time… there was a lake called Koronia. It was full of life, an earthly paradise. Clear water, trees, rare species of fish and birds. There was a perfect balance of flora and fauna, which offered a balance to the people of the lake as well. They worked on the lake, fed with its fish, enjoyed its waters. However, as the years went by, the bad for the lake came in 1980. The water was next to exhaustion due to the heavy watering of the fields, and the remaining was poisoned by those concrete monsters called “factories”. Thus, some birds of the lake began dying defenceless when, one morning in September, 2004, 30,000 dead birds were found, among which 250 rare Dalmatian pelicans. And then died the fish, died the little water and, as it is said, then came the death of the lake itself. Since, however, “hope dies last”, maybe one day in the near future water will concentrate again in the lake, reach up to 4 meters thanks to the torrent waters at Scholari and Lagadikia brought here by rain, and make the lake (re)live happily … and us even more happily ever after.
