Epanomi Lagoon

The lagoon of Epanomi is a place of high ecological importance with its 5,500 acres of wetland called “Fanari”, which functions as a migratory bird refuge, a place with shallow calm waters that communicate through channels to the sea, a place rich in flora and fauna which has joined the “Natura 2000” European Union program. This is an almost flat peninsula with low dunes and clusters of reeds gathering rare bird species. The lagoon serves as shelter for birds such as the Kentish plover, the Mediterranean gull, the curlew, the pratincole and the cormorant.
