Liston | Corfu city

Liston, the street where the nostalgic atmosphere of the historic centre meets the energy of the island, is strongly reminiscent of the Rue de Rivoli in Paris. Listening to the pulse of the city from here is a privilege that was not always obvious. Over the past centuries, only the nobles, whose name was listed in the Libro d ‘Oro, the Golden Book of the nobility, had the right to make their walk here. Today, first-time visitors are impressed by the block of old- but well-preserved- high-rise, linearly developed housing buildings with ground-floor arcades which bring together some of the most popular and historic cafes in the city. Numerous locals do their daily walk at Liston getting to their usual meeting places, at the tables under the stone arches with the old Venetian lanterns. In summer evenings, the chairs are turned towards the lawn of the Lower Square at the starting time of cricket matches.
