Old Metropolis of Veria

One of the greatest bishopric temples built in Macedonia in the 11th century was the old Metropolis, a tree-aisle wood roof basilica, of which the southern aisle is missing. The mural decoration found in the interior of the temple, the bigger part of which is dated in the 13th century, is quite important. Other murals decorating the eastern part of the northern aisle are dated around 1320. It is worth mentioning that during the ottoman domination the temple was converted to a Muslim temple, named Hunkiar Tzami.
