Old Town of Corfu

To better understand Corfu and its residents, you should walk its old city. Built between two fortresses, it embraces the works of great civilizations- the Venetians, French and English- which passed from the island, and sends you back to different eras in every step you take. You have to take your time and walk slowly next to the English and Venetian mansions, to drink coffee under the French arches of Liston and lie on the grass of the English gardens of Spianada; to get lost in the maze of the narrow streets (“kantounia”) of Campiello neighbourhood or in the galleries of its fortresses; to discover the aesthetic value of its architectural monuments making multiple stops in small squares, churches, museums and palaces; to see all those through which the historic city centre is a UNESCO World Heritage monument.
