Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki

The Museum was built in 1962 to designs by the architect Socrates Karantinos; a new wing was added to extend the building in 1980. The central section contains the collection of sculptures from the archaic to the late Roman periods, as well as architectural fragments from an Ionic temple, an educational unit on funerary architecture and two special thematic displays: Thessaloniki from prehistoric to Roman times, and Sindos, the archaic cemetery. The new wing contains the finds from the cemetery at Derveni, as well as other grave finds from the 4th century BC from the region around Thessaloniki.
