Dadia-Lefkimi-Soufli Forest National Park

On the southeast mountainous edges of Rodopi, near Soufli, lies a natural paradise with forests of Turkish pine and oak trees, with beautiful clearings and pastures, a site where the majority of predator species in Europe nest and lay their eggs. It is the ideal refuge for golden eagles, imperial eagles, booted eagles, common buzzards, long-legged buzzards, peregrines, sparrowhawks, black vultures, griffon vultures and other predatory birds, together with a number of other local, wild animals and forest reptiles. This is the renowned Dadia forest, Wildlife Reserve of Dadia-Lefkimi-Soufli, protected since 1980, and one of the most important stops along the migratory routes of predatory birds and unique biotope for the wintering, breeding and feeding of threatened species of eagles and vultures in Europe. The Ecotourist Centre of Dadia offers its discreet infrastructure for information on the birds, birdwatching, as well as for escorted walks in the forest.
