Vidronisi Island | Mikri Prespa

Within the aquatic paradise of the small Prespa are two islets: that of Agios Achilleios and Vidronisi (or Vitrinetsi). Unlike the island of Agios Achilleios, Vidronissi is not allowed to be visited or to produce sounds. This is because the small island is not uninhabited! It is a refuge for many birds, which have built their nests there. Silver pelicans, cormorants and other rare species live on Vidronisi undisturbed and safely. Human presence would disrupt their life and reproduction, so it is prohibited. However, birdwatching enthusiasts can rent a boat and approach Vidronissi to admire and photograph this unique and vibrant ecosystem. Furthermore, in Vidronissi there is a small church that is not working and is dedicated to Agios Georgios.
