In the middle of Pamvotida, where you can reach by boat from Ioannina, is the anonymous small island of the lake, which in a small area of only 200 acres, has a living settlement, which is characterized as traditional and around it six historic monasteries! The 110 stone houses of the village follow the traditional Epirus architecture with the characteristic slate roofs. The village’s church of the Kimisis (Assumption) of Theotokos, which was restored after its destruction during the Greek Revolution and the events with Ali Pasha (1820-22), is noteworthy. The inhabitants of the island live from fishing and tourism. On the island there are several sightseeing and historical monuments. The most important are the Panteleimon Monastery and the Philanthropinon Monastery.
