The southeastern acropolis of the castle, Its Kale, is larger and here in the Byzantine period the city centre, the Metropolitan Church of Taxiarches, the Church of Pantokrator and the residences of the lords of Ioannina were located. Later, the famous Serai of Ali Pasha and the Fethiye Mosque (Mosque of Conquest) were built on this site. Sightseeing monuments of Its Kale are the ruins of the Serai of Ali Pasha, where the Byzantine Museum was built, the tomb of Ali Pasha, the Fethiye Mosque, the “Treasury”, which hosts a permanent exhibition of silverware, the Culinary and small Powder magazine.
