Archaeological Site of Philippi | The Prison of Apostle Paul

A water tank, to the right of the monumental staircase of the “Via Egnatia”, was converted into a place of worship in early Christian times. According to tradition, it is believed that the Apostle Paul was imprisoned in this place during his passage from Philippi. Inside the cistern there are traces of an old fresco depicting Christ between two angels.
