Archaeological Museum of Ioannina

The Archaeological Museum of Ioannina is located in the center of the city and is one of the most important archaeological museums in Greece. It is housed in a modern building built by the distinguished architect Aris Konstantinidis in the 1960s. The building was renovated in 2000-2010, the exhibits were rearranged and the new exhibition includes about 3,000 objects from all over Epirus. The historical – archaeological themes are developed in the museum with modern museographic standards, with rich visual material and 3D reconstructions, in the following rooms – thematic sections: Room 1: Prehistoric Epirus. 2η: Political and administrative organization of Epirus. 3η: Ajacids, the kings of the Molosses. 4η: The daily life of the Epirus. 5η: The Archaeology of Death. 6η: Epirus in the Roman era. 7th: The sanctuary of Dodoni. The Museum has a shop, a refreshment room and a multi-purpose hall, which hosts temporary exhibitions, educational programmes and various cultural events.
