Syrrako

In the Tzoumerka Mountains which have been listed as traditional and maintain the popular architectural style of Epirus. Both villages flourished in the 18th century thanks to livestock breeding, commerce, master building, weaving and silversmithing. The cobblestone paths and well-maintained stone houses in Syrrako retain their traditional colour and grace. Cars are not permitted to enter the village, so a visit there is like a journey back in time. At Kalarrytes, the grey stone and slate are the main materials used to build the attractive two- and three-storey homes of the traditional village, its churches, pavements, fountains and entryways. Hewn stones, stone arches on the ground floors, ornate balconies and windows are evident everywhere. The shutters, railings and doors painted in various colours break up the monotony of the grey stone.
