Monastery of Panagia Spiliotissa | Spileo

The Holy monastery of the Assumption of the Virgin or Panagia Spiliotissa was founded in 1633, as the donor’s inscription in the church interior records. The monastery referred directly to the Archbishop of Achrides and not to the local metropolitan bishop. The iconostasis of the church, its door, and its windows, are exceptional samples of 17th century woodcarving. In the monastery that used to have a big property and contributed to the structure of the then local society, they kept relics of special value, such as reliquaries, gospels, crosses, codices, and service books.
